Description
Rosemary Leaf (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a perennial herb with a distinctive fragrance. It is a native of the Mediterranean region that is now grown in many areas of the world, including North America. It is part of the mint( Laminaceae)plant family, and is a favorite herb in kitchen gardens.
The Latin name Ros Marinus translates to “dew of the sea”. Rosemary was recognized as a health supportive herb since the time of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Rosemary has a variety of active natural antioxidant constituents including carnosol, carnosic acid and rosemarinic acid. Rosemary was considered lucky for weddings and for remembering the departed at funerals. The scent was considered helpful to support memory and modern science is now investigating this action. The scent of rosemary is considered purifying and invigorating.
